S | Sport and Transition
Sport The Olympics starts next Friday (23rd July)! Have a look at the list of all the sports that take place as part of the Olympics.
Choose one of the sports mentioned that you are not familiar with and find out about it. Can you find out a name of someone who competes in the sport? What are the rules? Do you score points or have to beat a time? Is it a team sport or individual sport?
For example, I knew Fencing was an Olympic Sport but I don’t know very much about it so I watched the “One minute, One Sport” Video all about Fencing. - Now I know that there are 3 weapons used in Fencing (Foil, Épée and sabre). - Athletes use techniques such as thrusting and cutting using their sabre against their opponent. - Lights and buzzers used during the match are for atmosphere and for those watching and not for the players themselves. - It can be an individual sport or a team event.
Transition Think about your ambitions for Year 5. Note down the answers to these questions on a piece of paper or in your Home Learning Book so we can look back at your answers in the future.
