Yesterday we walked to All Saints' Church in Barwick-in-Elmet to learn more about a Christian church as part of our Religious Education. Reverend Andy Nicholson talked to us about how the front part of church is 900 years old and the bigger inner section is 500 years old. We each had to find various objects around the church and we learnt what they were called and what they were used for. These included the altar, the lectern, the chalice, the organ and the pulpit. Some of us were allowed to enter the pulpit and look down upon our classmates in the pews. We also admired the stained glass windows showing stories from the Bible and we were able to draw one object in the church, focusing on the details.
In our Healthy Eating topic we have been researching different sandwiches that are available in shops and delicatessens in preparation for our designing and making our own sandwiches. As part of this research we visited the Maypole Coffee Shop in Barwick-in -Elmet in small groups. We want to thank the staff who were very helpful, taking time to answer the questions we had thought about in advance and who very kindly let us sample some cake!
