Challenge- Can you find out one interesting fact about minibeasts and tell Miss Mason at your next session?

 

Maths- Keep practicing some counting skills. What number can you count to? 10? Maybe 20? Have a go!

 

Phonics- Go on a 'listening ears' walk. Find some time this weekend to go on a walk with someone at home. What sounds can you hear? Can you identify them?

Being Independent- Make sure you are continuing to practice being independent! Get yourself dressed in the morning and put on your own shoes and coat! This is a really important part of moving to 'Big School'!

Fine motor- With lots of you moving up to reception it is really important you keep working on your fine motor skills! Make some play-dough and see if you can create some play-dough minibeasts!

Topic- Can you build your very own minibeast hotel in your garden? Find some bits and bobs from around your home and garden and create your own minibeast hotel. Use old pipes, bricks, sticks and pine cones to create somewhere cosy for the minibeasts to stay!

 

Maths- Number of the week this week is 10! Can you remember the two numerals that make up the number 10? Watch the Number 10 Numberblocks at home to remind you all about the number 10!

Topic- Go on a Minibeast Hunt at home! Take photos of any Minibeaasts that you find and upload them to Tapestry!

 

Fine Motor- Keep developing those fine motor skills! Have a go at treading pasta tubes onto a piece of string. Can you make a pasta necklace?

 

Be creative- Gather some natural resources such as leaves and petals and create a 3D summer picture. How many different types of natural resources can you find?

 

Being Independent- Lots of you are moving up to reception soon where you will need to be much more independent. Keep practicing putting on your shoes by yourself and other key independence skills!

Talk for Writing- The Nasty Old Troll has made an appearance in our Little Green Dinosaur story! Can you replace another character with your favourite fairytale character?

 

Maths – Number 8! Go on a number hunt and see where you can find the number 8 hiding! Look out for house numbers and car number plates!

 

Topic – Dinosaurs! Move around like a dinosaur. You could flap like a Pteranodon, stretch like an Apatosaurus, stomp like a Stegosaurus or swing your tail like a T. rex! Can you think of any other dinosaur moves?

Talk for Writing- Now we have completed the Talk for Writing story see if you can perform it for your family or friends!

 

Maths – Pick up sticks, Number 6! Can you go on a walk somewhere and see if you can pick up 6 sticks?

 

Topic – Dinosaurs! What is your favourite type of Dinosaur? Can you have a go at drawing it?

 

Fine Motor- It is really important to build the muscles in children's hands before they start writing have a go at one or several of these activities:

 

  • Playdough! Have a go at the Dough Disco just like we do at Nursery!
  • Treading- Thread beads onto a shoelace or pipecleaner
  • Buttons- Place buttons in a row one by one, have a go at making a pattern!
  • Pasta Necklace! Tread pasta and make a necklace!
  • Poke straws through holes! If you have any straws poke them through the holes in a colander.
  • Weaving!
  • Finger painting!

Talk for Writing- See if you can remember some of our new story 'The Little Green Dinosaur'. Don't forget to use actions to help you!

 

Maths – Number 5! See what you can do/find 5 of. Can you do 5 star jumps? 5 claps? Can you eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg? Have fun with Number 5!

 

Topic – Dinosaur stomp! Can you follow the Dinosaur stomp video on youtube?

 

Other skills – Continue to work on those key independence skills! Please allow children time to practice getting themselves dressed and putting on shoes and coats ect.

Literacy and Reading – Do you have any stories at home about dinosaurs? Read these stories together or watch and listen to 'Happy Hatch day' on youtube together!

 

Maths – Number Hunt! As it is lovely sunny weather this weekend why don't you go on a walk around your local area and see what numbers you can find? Take photos and upload to Tapestry!

 

Topic What do you already know about Dinosaurs and what would you like to find out? Have a think and come up with a question you would like to find out, ask an adult to help you investigate the answer. Look in information books or on the internet to answer your question!

 

Other skills – Continue to work on independence skills, encourage children to have a go at tasks before completing them for them straight away.

Literacy and Reading Share a story together every day/night if you can! Which story is your favourite and why?

 

Maths – Watch the Numberblocks at home! Over Easter keep enjoying the Numberblocks just like we do in Nursery!

 

Topic Happy Easter! Has the Easter bunny been to visit you? Can you ask an adult to organise an Easter egg hunt? Could you make an Easter decoration? Show me how your family celebrates Easter! Upload photos of your Easter fun to Tapestry! 

 

Other skills – Please encourage children to talk in full sentences and develop those communication skills eg. Please can you help me do my zip up?

Talk for WritingWe have been working really hard on our Talk for Writing story 'The three little pigs'. Keep practicing retelling the story with the actions at home!

 

Maths – We have been continuing to practice our counting skills with Muddles the puppet this week! What items can you count around your home? Can you take a photo to show to Muddles?

 

Topic – Can you draw the colour monster? Which colour are you feeling today? Can you colour him in that colour too?

 

Other skills  Thank you to parents who have been encouraging children to be more independent at home! The children are becoming much more independent with those key skills! Keep going!

Literacy and Reading – Enjoy sharing a story at home. Pick your favourite Christmas story and read it with an adult at home.

 

Maths – We have learnt a new nursery rhyme in Chestnut this week, 5 little elves! See if you can remember the words and perform it at home!

 

Topic   The children have been learning 'Away in a manger' and some extra practice at home would be great! We would love to see pictures of the Christmas traditions you do at home during December! Christmas is a great time for baking, can you bake some Christmas treats at home?

Literacy and Reading – Ask your child if they can remember any actions from "We're going on a bear hunt" and retell the story.

 

Maths – Enjoy singing nursery rhymes which contain numbers, 5 little ducks, ten green bottle, 5 little men in a flying saucer.

 

Topic Talk to your child about Christmas and enjoy Christmas preparations together. Please upload pictures of your trees to Tapestry for Miss Mason and Mrs Smith to see! The children have been learning 'Away in a manger' and some extra practice at home would be great! Maths – Enjoy action games counting to 3. Go on a walk around your local area or park. Can your child spot any of the numbers we have practised so far? (0, 1, 2 or 3) Also keep an eye of for triangles.

We have been working on understanding ‘more’.

Work with your child identify the group that has ‘more’ than others. 

 

Topic – Talk to your child about Diwali. Use salt dough and a tea light to create your own diva and enjoy a story by candle light, snuggled down nice and warm.

 

Other skills – Next week the children will be going on an Autumn walk. Please practise changing their shoes into wellies and back again.

Literacy and Reading – Explore lots of different texts with your child, not just story books but non-fiction/ information books as well as poetry and rhyme books too.

 

Maths – We have been working on understanding ‘more’.

Work with your child to understand that when we get more of something our amount gets bigger each time. Can they recognise which person has more?

 

Topic – Enjoy making some bonfire fruit or sparklers at home like we have done this week or let your child use black paper and bright colours to create a bonfire night picture.

 

Other skills – Encourage your child to fasten their own coat. Show them how to complete their zip or buttons. Let them have a go themselves

Literacy and Reading – Instead of reading a book together, choose a special night to create a story together. Start your story with…

”Once upon a time there was a _____ who lived in a ________”

Let your child fill in the blank parts in your story… see where the fun will take you!

 

Maths – Go on a number walk in your local area. Can they spot the numbers 0, 1 and 2 in different places they go? Door numbers? Passing buses? Signposts? Take some photos of your number walk to share with the rest of our nursery class.

 

Topic Have a superhero party for your child’s teddies or toys. Can they make a mask and cape for each guest and give them a super name and super power?

 

Other skills – Let your child practise putting their own shoes and coat on, Use verbal instructions and clues but allow them to try themselves.

Literacy – Practise reading your child’s name. Can they recognise their own name independently.

 

Reading - Enjoy watching some Supertato books on youtube. Can your child describe the Evil Pea or Supertato? Create a Supertato story together – what trouble can they children create for Evil Pea? How will they trap him?

 

Maths – Explore the number 2 – Can your child find things that there is 2 of in the house? How many pairs can they find?

 

Topic – Has Evil Pea escaped from your freezer at home? What trouble has he caused? Have some fun while your child sleeps creating some superhero fun at home.

Literacy – This week concentrate on introducing new words to your child to describe objects they enjoy. Can they describe it with lots of different words? Are there any words that you could introduce to extend their vocabulary? E.g. If your child says ‘big’ could you introduce ‘huge’? Can they use this word by themselves to show their understanding?

 

Reading - Enjoy sharing your nursery reading books with your child. Discuss the characters, pictures and things that are happening as you read. Before reading ask ‘What do you think this story will be about?’ or challenge them to explain what they think will happen next.

 

Maths – Play a colour hunt with the number 1 – Can you find 1 thing that is red/yellow etc?

Do they recognise the number 1?

 

Topic – Enjoy some fancy dress fun – What superhero can they become? What powers do they have?

Friday 18th September 2020

 

Phonics -  Listening Time -  Try to stop and listen with your child in different places for short periods of time (10- 30seconds). Concentrate on staying quiet, listening carefully and trying to name 2 different sounds heard. 

Can you put it into a sentence - for example: I can hear bird tweeting in the tree. I can hear cars on the road. 

 

Reading - Enjoy sharing your nursery reading books with your child. Discuss the characters, pictures and things that are happening as you read.

 

Maths - Sing some counting songs or explore the number 1 as we will be starting to explore our numbers in the coming weeks.
