Lunchtime is an important part of the school day at Barwick. It is a chance for children to enjoy good food, spend time with their friends and recharge ready for the afternoon. Children can choose between a freshly prepared school meal or bring a packed lunch from home. Lunchtime is about much more than eating. Children sit and eat with their friends before enjoying time to play, talk and relax. Our staff are there to help younger children, encourage good table manners and make sure lunchtime is a happy and positive part of the day.

Our school meals follow a three-week rotating menu, offering children a varied selection of tasty and nutritious meals. Meals are chosen in advance using the Appetite app, allowing parents and carers to select their child’s preferred meal from the available choices. Please ensure meals are ordered in advance so that your child’s selection is ready for them at lunchtime.

Could you be entitled to free school meals?

Your child may be entitled to benefits-related Free School Meals. From September 2026, this includes children from households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household earnings. Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and already receives a free meal through Universal Infant Free School Meals, it is still important to check your eligibility, as some qualifying families can also help the school access additional funding and support.
