At Barwick-in-Elmet, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child should feel that they belong, are understood and can succeed. Children are wonderfully individual. Some may need additional support for a short period of time, while others may have longer-term special educational needs or disabilities. Whatever a child's needs, our starting point is always the same: we get to know the child. We work closely with children, families and professionals to understand individual strengths and needs and to make sure the right support is in place. Our aim is not simply for children to access school, but for them to participate, achieve, develop friendships and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Our Approach

At Barwick-in-Elmet Church of England Primary School and Nursery, we aim to be a place "Where all God's children flourish together". Our SEND Information Report (below) gives details of our provision to children and families who have an interest in, or need for SEND provision. Of course, should you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me or your child’s class teacher via the school office. SEND Local Offer
What is a Local Offer?
From September 2014, the Government has asked all Local Authorities in the UK to publish, in one place, information about the services and provision they expect to be available in their area for children and young people from 0 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND). As part of this commitment, all schools are asked to detail their approach, resources and provision for children who may have an additional SEND need. This is known as the ‘Local Offer’.
