Red Words

Bingo:

Create your own red word bingo game.

You will need at least two players.

Use the words: I, the, to, no, go, into, he, she,

Each player to choose 6 words and to write them down on a piece of paper.

Write all of the words on smaller pieces of paper and place them face down on the table. Take it in turns to pick up one of the words. Read the word and if you have it on your bingo mat, cross it off. The winner is the person to cross off all of their words first.

Comprehension task

In the resources file, I have added a reading comprehension challenge. If you do not have a printer, ask an adult to write the sentences on a piece of paper, for you. You can then draw the picture to go with it.

Review of the week

Watch the video to recap your learning of all the sounds taught so far this week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN6GmiiR_2s

Reading: In the Resources File, I have added a ‘Read and Race’ game. You will need to play the game with a partner so you could ask a grown up or a sibling.

If you do not have a printer at home, ask an adult to write out some of the words from the game. Hide the words around your home and go on a word hunt. Each time you find a word, find the digraph and underline it. Next, say the sounds in order to help you read the word. Blend the sounds together to read and identify the word.

Writing: Look at the pictures of words containing the ‘th’ and ‘ng’ digraphs. Write the word to match each of the pictures. Write the words on a piece of paper.

Sentence challenge: Think about the phonemes we have learnt this week: sh, ch, th and ng. Practise the one that you are least confident with and write one of the following sentences:

sh- The shed is shut.

ch- Chop up the chips.

ng- Sing and song.

Hello Reception!

I hope you are all ok. I have really enjoyed seeing some of your Remote Learning Challenges on Tapestry. Seeing your smiley faces and all your hard work is putting a BIG smile on my face.

Now, I know a lot of you are missing being at school and seeing your friends. To help, I have put together a Phonics Lesson for you to join in with. You may like to do my lesson as well as the Phonics I have planned today, or you may want to choose my lesson to complete instead. The choice is yours!

The video will be going live on Tapestry at 9:30am this morning. It will appear in 3 parts as the file was too big to appear on one video.

Finding One Less

For today’s activity, you will need your favourite fruit or vegetable cut up into pieces. You might choose raisins, bits of apple, or sticks of carrot.

Use your fruit to finish my story:

First I have X amount of (Fruit Name)

Then I ate one!

Now I have… X

Keep going with the story, each time identifying one less, until you don’t have any left.

What happens to your amount when you eat one? Does it get bigger or smaller?

When we find one less, we are taking one away. Our amount gets smaller each time.

Ready, steady…. GO!

Today we will be learning to read and write the Red Word: ‘to’. This word is a ‘tricky word’ because the ‘o’ in the word makes the ‘oo’ sound. Remember, our Red words are a little bit tricky. We have to ‘train our brains’ to remember them!

  1. Identify the word ‘to’ in the Tricky Word Song
  2. Can you find the word ‘to’ in one of your story books?
  3. Practise writing the word ‘to’. Can you speed read and write it without having to copy?

You will find some handwriting sheets in the Resources File, if you would like a sheet to complete.

Number 9

Yesterday you learnt all about the number 9 and explored different ways of representing the number.

If you have access to a computer, you can follow this link for a lesson about the number 9:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/counting-up-to-9-objects-reliably-74v38d?activity=video&step=1

I have uploaded a part, part whole model to the Resources File for you to use. If you don’t have a printer, don’t worry as you can use things from around your house to create one. You could use 2 small plates to represent the ‘two parts’ and a large plate to represent the ‘whole’. You could also use table place mats- the cup coasters could be the part, and the plate mat could be the whole! See if you can find some other imaginative ways of creating a part-whole model!

With your part-whole model, I’d like you to explore different ways of making 9. You will need 9 small objects such as; 9 pieces of pasta, 9 lego bricks or 9 buttons. Explore different ways of making 9 using your objects. If I put 5 in the first part, how many will there be in the second part?

Challenge: Write the addition calculations for each of the ways you found to make 9. You may need an adult to help you with the first one!
