RE: Why do we have Chocolate Eggs at Easter?

We are preparing for Easter time. How do you celebrate Easter?

Watch the videos to learn more about Easter. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-easter

Easter Sunday is an exciting day for Christians. They want to tell everyone Jesus is not dead: he is alive forever. At church, they sing loud, joyful songs and the vicar says in a very loud voice: ‘Jesus is risen’.   Everyone has to shout back: ‘He is risen indeed! Alleluia!’

Ask: Why do you we think we have Easter eggs at Easter?

Shape Prints

Now that you are on your way to be experts at identifying and describing 3D shapes, I’d like you to think about the face shapes of 3D shapes.

Activity

Look at this resource to see the objects and shapes I have found. See if you can match the 3D object to the shape I have printed in my playdough.

Now it’s your turn.

Gather together some different shaped objects.

Use playdough or paint to print your shapes. Think about the shape that each of your shape make. This is the shape of the face of the 3D shape. After making 3D face prints, identify the shape of all the faces of the 3D shapes. How many faces does each shape have? Does your shape have a curved or flat surface? How many vertices does your shape have?

RE: Why do we eat Hot Cross Buns at Easter?

Look at this resource to look at the first three pictures. Discuss the following: What is it? Have you eaten one of these before? What did it taste/ smell like? Why do we eat Hot cross buns at Easter time, especially on Good Friday? What can you remember about Jesus and the cross? Where have you seen a cross before?

Use the resource to elicit that the cross reminds Christians that Jesus died, but the shape of the bun reminds them of the stone in front of the cave where his body was placed & that Jesus came back to life.

Use this resource to look at the other pictures of the inside of different Churches. How many crosses can the children find in each church?

RE:

LO: How does belief in God help Christians when they are feeling worried?

Show some pictures of sparrows. Click here to view the document.

Talk about sparrows, e.g. what sparrows look like? Where they live? What they eat? What sound they make when they sing? etc.

Who do Christians believe created sparrows?

Listen to the story of “The Very Worried Sparrow” by Meryl Doney.

Discuss what the sparrow is worried about? (Food to eat, building his nest, finding a friend, safety of his family, etc.)

What made his worries go away?

Ask children if they ever have similar worries?

How do they deal with their worries?

Explain that Christians believe that God doesn’t want anyone to worry about anything. They believe that because God loves everyone, He will take care of people and provide for them . . . just like he did for the worried sparrow!

Focus activity:

Think about: who cares for you?  Draw a picture of yourself and write/draw around it people who care for you.

Measures- Weight

Over the next few weeks, we will be thinking about different measures. This week we will be looking at weight.

Weight means how heavy something is. We will be using vocabulary such as heavy/ heavier/ heaviest and light/ lighter/ lightest.

Join in with my video to explore the weight of objects.

Activity:

Fill two shopping bags, one with many small items and the other with two larger empty or lighter boxes. Ask your child to look inside the bag, but not to touch the objects inside. Predict which bag will be the heaviest/ lightest. Explain why you think this.

Ask your child to pick up the shopping bags, one in each hand, and identify which is the heaviest bag. Ask them to show you which is the heaviest bag by moving their arms like the balancing scales in my video. For example, what happens to the balancing scales when something is heavier?

Repeat this activity a few times, each time using different objects.

Talk for Writing- 3 day Project.

We will be completing a project over the next three days. You will need to complete these activities in order.

Part 1

The video I have created for this piece of work is to be watched in two parts. We will be watching the first part today, and the second part tomorrow.

Now you have become experts at retelling the story of Elmer, we are going to innovate our story map. This means we are going to change the story map slightly, to create our own story.

Use the video to watch how I have changed my story of Elmer into a story mountain. Watch the video up until 2 minutes 27 seconds. Then press stop. The rest of the video is for tomorrow’s activity.

Today I’d like you to have one final practise at telling my story, using my story mountain. Click here to find my Elmer Story Mountain.

Thinking Time

Tomorrow you will be innovating/ changing my Story Mountain into your own story. Today, I’d like you to spend some time thinking about the following:

  1. Choose a jungle animal that you would like to use for your story.
  2. Decide on a name for your animal. In our story, the elephant was called Elmer. What will your animal be called?
  3. Decide on one animal that your new animal will see in the jungle.
  4. Decide how you patchwork animal will change into the ‘normal’ colour e.g. monkey rolling in the mud.

Tomorrow you will be creating your story using a story mountain.

Over the next few weeks, we will be thinking about different measures. This week we will be looking a size.

Today, you will be using your feet to measure! Draw a round your foot on a piece of paper and cut it out. You will need at least two feet cut out.

Use your feet to measure any of the following:

  • Measure the length of a room in your house. Finish my sentence- My living room/ kitchen is xxx feet long.

  • Measure the height of a family member. You could use a large piece of paper and draw around a family member (the will need to lie down!) Use your feet to measure how tall they are. Finish my sentence- my family member is xxx feet tall.

Think about what other things you could measure in your home, using your cut out feet as a unit of measurement. If you prefer, you may choose to draw around your hands instead.

Measures- Size

Over the next few weeks, we will be thinking about different measures. This week we will be looking a size.

Height

Today, we will be thinking about height. This means we will be thinking about how tall something is. Do you have a height chart at home? Maybe you could measure to see how tall you are. Who is the tallest in your house? Can you order your family members in height order?

Activity

On Teams, I have added a sheet for you to complete. Using cubes, pieces of pasta, lego bricks or any other small item you have at home, measure how tall each of the animals are. You will need to create a line of objects so that they are all touching. Record your answer in the box.

If you don’t have a printer, find different items around your home to measure. You could use cubes, pieces of pasta etc to measure how tall each of the objects are.

RE- Lesson 3

LO: I know that the name ‘God’ is important to Christians?

Look at the following document. Discuss what VIP (Very Important Person) means.

Slide 1- Why is Mrs Sanderson a VIP at school?

Slide 2- Why is the Queen a VIP?

Slide 3- Who is a VIP to you?

Who is a VIP to a Christian?

Explain that a Christian uses the name ‘God’ with care because they believe He is a VIP.

Who has heard of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’? Explain that this is a prayer that we say in Collective Worship & when we go to church. It has the words, ‘hallowed be your name’, which means ‘special is your name.’

Listen to the story of Moses and the Burning Bush (The Lion Storyteller Bible).

I wonder how Moses felt when he saw the burning bush.

I wonder how Moses felt when God told him to take his shoes off.

Activity:

Complete the ‘This is my name’ activity if the file. Think about why you are a VIP.

You may choose to write your name in large writing and decorate it using craft materials.

RE- Why is Harvest important to Christians?

LO: I can explain that Harvest Festival is a time for Christians to say ‘Thank-you’ to God.

Look at these pictures. Discuss the following:

What can you see in the picture?

Where do you think it is?

Why is the food on display?

What might the people be thinking who have put this food on display?

Listen to the story here- A Wet and Windy Harvest for Puddles.

Today we are going to think about Harvest Festival. This is a festival that is celebrated by Christians in the Autumn. Can you remember celebrating Harvest Festival in school?

Harvest reminds Christians of all the good ‘gifts’ God gives them and that they need to say ‘Thank-you’ to Him.

Think about ‘thankfulness’.

Why is it important to say ‘thank-you?’ Can you think of a time that you said ‘thank-you’ to somebody?

Why do you think that Christians feel that they need to say ‘Thank-you’ to God for Harvest?

Discuss what happens with the produce that is collected at Harvest Festival.

Ask: Why do you think that, as well as celebrating what we have, it is important to give to others who do not have as much as we do?

Focus Activity: Can you draw or paint a picture of Puddles the Cat in Church for Harvest Festival.
